After School Programs

After School at our Brooklyn Navy Yard workshop is a dynamic and creative afternoon. Children learn how to use tools to make projects which they take home. Projects vary depending on the age and experience level of the child, but can range from puppets, animals, vehicles, and go-carts, to making toys and mazes and fantastic buildings. If your child has attended before we will be sure to offer him/her new projects. Often during fall sessions, we make Halloween masks and gifts for the holidays. Other ideas include superhero figures (Minecraft, Ninjago, etc.), and houses for our dolls and imaginary friends. This fall our major themes are Skateboards, What’s Inside, and Building Everyday.

NEW Pickup from nearby schools is now available! If your child attends Greene Hill, Arts & Letters, PS 20, PS 46, or Fort Green Preparatory Academy, we can pickup and escort your child to BLDG92. Includes supervised playtime until program starts at 4pm. The cost is $10 a session. Register for this add-on when you enroll for after school.

Construction Kids brings building with real tools to after school. Children will learn to safely use a variety of tools and materials to build their own custom skateboard. This will include the deck and deck tape design and assembly/installation of the wheels and trucks from the loose assortment of bearings, washers and parts. This will be followed by time building, decorating and riding our classic ConstructionKids Go-Carts. Like spending an afternoon in your grandfather's garage, (if he happened to be a carpenter), this is old-fashioned hands-on learning with contemporary creative values. Includes all materials and tools.

What's Inside explores how things are built and how they work. We start by exploring what's inside our own bodies; what holds it up and how it moves. We build a large model of our bones and circulatory system. Then we look at what's inside the walls of building and how the systems we take for granted work in our houses. Finally, we look at what's inside a variety of household appliances by taking them apart and reimagining how we could put them together. What's Inside is a week of inquiry and exploration: everything has an inside, so lets take a look!
